Happy Birthday, Kevin and Alexis!

Happy Birthday to Kevin (Sunday) and Alexis (Monday)!  They get their very own blog post!  Lisa (aka, blog writer) was off earlier in the week but came back for the birthday celebration, so here's a recap of their special day!

🥳🥳🥳

Friday, October 25

After a dance warm up that featured Kevin's and Lexi's favorite songs, we made cards for each of them and set up a dual birthday board.

Games were next on the agenda.  Kevin enjoys puzzles and puzzle-type games, so we played several versions of an online matching game from the National Geographic website.  It was fun, and we learned interesting things, such as what krill are (small, shrimp-like crustaceans) and that penguins eat it!

Alexis chose corn hole for her party game, so we had the Battle of the Birthday Buddies!

Patrick scored 6 points for Team Alexis today!

Thomas is getting the hang of our "rules" as he scored for Team Kevin!

The birthday girl's team came out on top today, 28-24!

The birthday boy's team settled for 2nd place in a game that featured a lot of good sportsmanship!

Before lunch, we played one more game where Lexi and Kevin chose random letters, and then we complimented them by thinking of words to describe them that began with those letters.  Some of today's words that described Lexi and Kevin included likable, loyal, outstanding, out of this world, and young!!

Many thanks to Kevin's mom, Debbie who provided subs and salad, and to Lexi's mom, Lisa, who provided fruit, chips, and cake for our lunch today!  It was all very good, and we each got to take 1/2 of our sub home!  They were huge!

Monsters, Inc for Kevin and Lilo and Stitch for Lexi!

Kevin and Lexi, we hope all of your wishes come true!  Happy Birthday to two of our friends who don't mind sharing a party!

After all that partying, we needed to take a brisk walk, so we headed to Newport News Park.  It was warm and sunny, and we saw turtles and herons as we traveled along the trail beside the reservoir.

The fall colors are starting to show on the trees, too!

We're proud of our gang for their dedication to movement through walking!

Sometimes they get silly, such as when Laura and Annmarie played "peek-a-boo" at this tree!

It was a great day for celebrating Kevin and Alexis!

We're also celebrating more good news about Tessa!  She continued to work hard with her physical therapy this week and she's making steady progress.  She will be released from the rehabilitation center on Monday, and will continue her therapy at home.  She still has a long way to go.  Standing on her own remains a challenge, but she's getting there.  She misses all of her friends, and we all miss her, too!  Keep up the good work, Tessa.  We are so proud of you!

We'll be back next week to wrap up October, including having a big Halloween Party!  Here are our plans:

Tuesday:  We're heading to visit Wisteria and friends at The Mariners' Museum today for a "spooky" lesson!  That's all we know, but it sure sounds interesting.  The weather forecast looks great for spending time outside, so bring a bagged lunch.  Arc shirts optional.

Wednesday:  We will volunteer at GCOC this morning, so please wear Arc shirts.  We'll also begin preparing for tomorrow's Halloween party with some food and decoration preps.  There will be a celebration of Candy Corn Day, too, and we will start a new read-aloud!  Lunch on your own.  Microwave available.  JRES Cafeteria is serving Popcorn Chicken Bowl or Hot Dog.

Thursday:  Happy Halloween!  Today will be spent doing all kinds of fun activities as we party all day.  Costumes are optional.  Lunch and party treats are courtesy of our WOTM friends who gave us an extra donation after the golf touranment.  Thank you, Patti and WOTM for sponsoring our Halloween party (and future Christmas party since we saved some of the donation)!!  We'll enjoy chicken nuggets, meatballs, fruit salad, and fresh veggies for lunch!

Friday:  Today is a PSP Work Day so please wear Pet Supplies Plus shirts.  It's also the first of November so we will update our calendar and remove Halloween decorations to make room for a Thanksgiving makeover!  We'll have a Mystery Science lesson to suit the season, and we'll end the week with yoga with Jaime, so dress to stretch.  Lunch on your own.  Microwave available.  JRES Cafeteria is offering Cheeseburger or Fish Sticks.

Everyone have a great weekend,

Lisa, Carol, Nan, and the AoA Gang
