Happy Birthday, Adia!

Our week was a quick two days - Monday and Tuesday - but we packed in a lot!  We celebrated Adia's birthday on Monday and visited Christina at The Art Museums on a rainy Tuesday.  Check out those fun events, plus some other things we accomplished during our abbreviated week of Thanksgiving!

Monday, November 20

When Adia's birthday rolls around on Friday, we won't be here, so we celebrated her today.  It's unusual for us to meet on a Monday, but we wanted to meet twice this week since we close for Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday-Friday.  We were thrilled to have everyone in attendance today, too!  For Adia's birthday lunch, we cooked macaroni and cheese in the slow cooker, and decided it was a "keeper" recipe!  We rounded the meal out with green beans and baked chicken followed by ice cream floats!  Adia also requested a movie day, so we watched Beauty and the Beast with a hallway "dance walk" for intermission.  We ended a fun day with Harry Potter movie trivia, since Adia is a big fan! 🥳🥳🥳

Happy 25th Birthday, Adia!  We hope all your wishes come true and that the year to come is your best yet!

Tuesday, November 21

Everyone was pretty excited today.  Was it because Thanksgiving Break was beginning tomorrow and we would have time off to enjoy with family, good food, and no alarm clocks?  Nope!  It was because we were drawing Secret Santa names!!  That put everyone in such a good mood that they didn't even mind doing a bit of cleaning!

Adia and Erik volunteered to "wipe down" the fridge, but took it upon themselves to completely empty it so the wipe down could be really thorough!  👏👏

Twinning on game day!

Filling out Secret Santa tip sheets!  Then, we forgot to get pics of the names being drawn. 😕

Thanksgiving Bingo!

After the Secret Santa and Bingo excitment, plus an early lunch, we ended the week with a delightful visit with Christina at The Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg where we found objects related to cooking, preserving, or eating food...right up our alley!   Another museum friend, Jan, joined us as we created beautiful placemats with Christina that reflected our Thanksgiving gratitude.  It was a perfect lead-in to the Thanksgiving Break.  Thank you, Christina and Jan, for spending time with us this afternoon.  We always learn something new, and we always enjoy chatting with you!

Happy Thanksgiving cards for Christina; we are thankful for our time with her each month!

Tea pots, coffee pots, and chocolate pots!

A few of our placemats since we forgot to take a picture of everyone's before dismissal began.  They were all beautiful!

Christina leads the team that assembles and decorates all of the gorgeous trees at The Art Museums.  We highly recommend a visit to see them during the holiday season!

We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!  We'll be back in session next Tuesday, November 28th, and here are our plans for the last week of November...

Tuesday:  We are going to The Mariners' Museum today for a lesson with Wisteria and friends.  We'll spend part of the time with Wisteria outside on the Noland Trail, and we hope to snag a nice group picture for our 2023 Christmas card, so please try to be here and wear Arc shirts!  The cafe at the museum remains closed for renovations, so bring a bagged lunch.  We will eat outside if the weather is nice; otherwise we will return to AFCC for lunch.

Wednesday:  We will volunteer at Grove this morning, so please wear Arc shirts again!  Later, we will have fun with a couple of football themed lessons from Mystery Science:  Who Invented Football? and What Would Happen If Football Players Didn't Wear Helmets?  We also have to make farewell cards for our friend, Adia. 😞  Lunch on your own today.  JRES Cafeteria is available and the menu is for Popcorn Chicken Bowl or Hot Dog.

Thursday:  Today we will welcome The Arc's Executive Director, Pam, for a visit!  We'll update our calendar for December and begin transforming our room for Christmas.  We'll also celebrate Mousse Day as a farewell to Adia by making a simple chocolate mousse dessert.  Lunch on your own.  JRES Cafeteria is available and is offering Domino's Pizza, Sub of the Day, or Chef Salad.

Friday:  We're celebrating Carol's birthday today!  It's also a Pet Supplies Plus work day, so please wear PSP shirts.  While one crew travels to work at the pet store, the other will prepare a birthday luncheon of chicken and rice casserole, steamed veggies, and blueberry crumb bars.  We'll play Virgina Trivia for Carol's party and then end the day with yoga, so dress to stretch, too.
