Just the Facts!

 Just the Facts!

πŸ‘

Here's a short version of the blog before I head out of town for next week.  We really love our blog posts, so I couldn't resist posting a few pics from this week...

Tuesday

We went to Chippokes State Park with Tracy as our tour guide.  It was our first time visiting, but we will return.  We did a lot of walking, hunted for shark's teeth, had a picnic at the shelter, and explored the farm area where we met a new friend, Yancey, who let us feed animals!  Yes, we loved it!!  Oh, and the ferry ride was fun, too!

We thought we might get rained out, but other than it being a bit humid, we had a beautiful day!

It was a nice hike down to the river's edge where we looked for shells and shark teeth.

Tracy found a shark's tooth!

Beachcombers with their treasures!

The walk back to the Visitor Center...uphill!

We all made it and we know that kind of walking is good for us!

We missed Drew, Michelle, and Elizabeth today.   Hopefully they will be with us when we visit Chippokes again!

Yancey, who tends to the farm and animals at Chippokes, gave us peanuts to feed Tazewell, the pig!

We had a fun day at Chippokes State Park!

Wednesday

We had fun hanging out at AFCC today.  We celebrated Toasted Marshmallow Day by making simple cookies - put 3 mini marshmallows together on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for about 45 minutes.  Halfway through, add a pecan on top and continue baking!  Leave some "plain" ones for about 1/2 of our friends!

They tasted pretty good...maybe more like a candy than a cookie, though!

We also had fun building structures with marshmallows and toothpicks!

For Whale Shark Day, we watched a fascinating video and learned they are the largest fish (as well as shark) in the ocean, growing as big as a bus...but considered "gentle giants" who filter feed and have lots of teeth which they don't use!  We can always count on Michelle to bring us more resources and facts when it comes to sharks!

Kate brought a shark sculpture that, while not a whale shark, was still very cool to see.  It once belonged to her grandfather, then her father, and now it lives in her brother's room!

Best dressed in their shark shirts!

Another fun thing we did today was load last week's pictures into a blog and helped Lisa write about what we did while she, Nan, and Alexis were absent.  We really enjoyed telling our story in our own words!

Thursday

It was raining when we came in, so our plans to celebrate Eat Outside Day were up in the air.  We remained positive and packed our bag lunches anyway... Our teams prepared PB&J sandwiches, grapes, veggies, and chips.

They stuffed the bags and added napkins, too!

The rain stopped by mid-morning, but we decided to stay at the center a while longer and work on the September calendar before deciding whether to venture out...

Kevin and Lexi loaded up the calendar with the squares that were labeled with a lot of fun things we have to look forward to this month!

Around 11:30 we decided to head out to a park we had not visited before, Charles Brown Park.  It's located on Yorktown Road in the Lackey area, and we had spotted it on our travels to the Watermen's Museum.

It turned out to be a small park, with only two picnic tables.  So, we had our first ever picnic on bleachers!  They were surprisingly dry, and we got to celebrate Eat Outside Day with our friends!

We had the park to ourselves.  After eating, we enjoyed time on the small playground, and walked around checking out the park's Community Garden and very nice restrooms.  If we come here again, we'll bring basketballs because it has two nice courts!  We'll also look for the walking trail.

The weather had cooled down significantly, and we enjoyed our visit to Charles Brown Park!

Earlier in the day Adia had whipped up her delicious eclair dessert, only this time she used pistachio pudding!  We enjoyed it at the end of the day.  She made sure Sweet T had a dessert cup with only pudding and whipped topping, and Xavier had gluten-free cookies!  πŸ˜‹πŸ’•πŸ˜‹

Friday

We can put another successful Eaton work day in the books!  There were only a couple of hours of work to do this morning, but luckily it was a GORGEOUS day outside so we headed to New Quarter Park for lunch, playground time, and a walk!  Many thanks to Greg Kline for filling in for Lisa, today!  He is getting good at the Eaton drill.  He's also lots of fun, and "so funny with his jokes," so we'll keep him on the sub list for sure! πŸ˜œπŸ™πŸ˜œπŸ™

Here are our plans for next week, September 5-8.  Lisa will be out of town (and Nan as well on Tuesday), but Carol and a great team of substitutes, along with our amazing AoA members, will keep the ball rolling!

Tuesday:  Cameron joins us today for bowling and pizza for lunch, sponsored by his family.  Thank you so much, Ouelettes.  We are grateful for your generosity!  Arc shirts optional as we still wait for our new ones to arrive.  Tracy and Caroline, our friend in the therapy dog group, will join us to fill in for Lisa and Nan.

Wednesday:  We'll be at AFCC all day.  Lunch on your own; JRES Cafeteria is available and the menu is Popcorn Chicken Bowl or Hot Dog.  Nan returns, and Elizabeth's mom, Lise Kline, will fill in for Lisa.

Thursday:  We'll be at AFCC all day.  We're saying farewell to Devin "Sweet T" today as his family is returning to Arizona to be near family.  We will miss Sweet T so very much!  Thank you, Tyree Family, for the gift of Devin over the past 7 years (off and on)!  He was a dedicated AoA member, and a true team player.  Best wishes to your family!  Chicken Caesar Pasta Salad and Baked Acorn Squash for lunch...It's National Acorn Squash Day!  Patrick's mom, Sue Norton, will fill in for Lisa today and tomorrow.

Friday:  We are scheduled for a Pet Supplies Plus work day, so wear your PSP shirts and dress to stretch for yoga at the end of the day.  Lunch on your own.  JRES Cafeteria is available and is offering Cheeseburger or Fish Sticks.

Happy Labor Day Weekend,

Lisa, Carol, Nan, and the AoA Gang
