Special Edition: WOTM Golf Tournament, 2021!!!!

If we ever reflect back on Sunday, August 1, 2021, we'll recall it was the day we awoke to thunderstorms, headed to a golf tournament that was "a go," and ended the day with sunshine and another SUCCESSFUL Women of the Williamsburg Moose (WOTM) Chapter 1755 Charity Golf Tournament!  That's right...our friend and the dedicated and hardworking chairwoman of the tournament committee, Patti (or Moose Patti, as we like to call her!), said everything would turn out great for the 6th annual tournament, and it did!

Patti, we can't thank you and the WOTM enough for supporting The Arc of Greater Williamsburg and the Arc of Abilities day program for 6 years now through this fun tournament!  Each year it's bigger and better, despite us being in a pandemic for the past two.  Your hard work pays off for The Arc, and it means the world to us.

We are also grateful to the many teams (many of whom have played every year) and sponsors who ensure the success of the tournament.  We are proud to call you friends, and to support you and your local businesses, too!  Here are a few pictures from Sunday's tourney.  Thanks again, to all involved in its success!

We made large thank you posters to display in the registration area.

Due to the rain, we had to cover them in clear contact paper (thanks, Carol!)...which only made them "shine" more!

We're so proud, and very thankful for our volunteer team.  Carol, Liz, Patrick, Lisa, Devin, Alexis, AND Patrick's mom, Sue (not pictured here), braved the elements and had a great time supporting the WOTM and all the players!  Thank you to ALL of them for their service!  They represent The Arc beautifully!

These players were warming up on the putting green...but we really took the picture because we love the kilts! 😀

There were 20 teams in this year's tournament.  All but 1 were able to make it on a very wet Sunday morning.

The tournament was held at the beautiful Williamsburg National on the Jamestown course.  There is a nice pavilion, and we were able to stay dry while mingling with the team members and all of our WOTM friends.

Shelley has been involved in the tournament every year since it began in 2016.  Alexis and Patrick loved catching up with her!

Our Executive Director Pam was there, too.  Here, she chatted with Devin's dad, Scott, and little sister, Hailey.

Liz and Carol MADE Patti stop buzzing about just long enough for us to grab this photo!  Patti is amazingly energetic, and left no stone unturned in making the tournament run smoothly.  She also said all along that the weather would clear up, despite our weather apps reporting otherwise, and she was right!  We 💗💗💗 us some Patti!

Soon, it was time for the teams to head out to the course.  Patrick, Devin, Alexis, Liz, and Sue gathered to send them off with big cheers and hearty THANK YOUs!!

Our camera couldn't get all the golf carts in one shot!  Thanks again to all the players!!!  We appreciate you!

Since it was raining pretty steadily at the beginning, we stayed under the pavilion and planned to cheer for the teams from a distance as they came by later.  We were bummed not to get to be stationed at our assigned holes, where we could schmooze with the teams as they played.  😕☔

After less than an hour, the rain stopped!  Patti told us to load up on golf carts and hit the trail.  It was too wet for us to set up at a hole, so she told us to drive around the entire course and schmooze with the players that way!  Carol took Devin and Alexis rode with Lisa.  They had the thank you signs ready!

Sue and Patrick were ready with their beautiful smiles and Pat's sign!  (We didn't get a picture of Liz before she and Shelley took off, but they were on a mission to sell 50-50 raffle tickets!)

C'mon, Carol and Devin.  Put the pedal to the metal.  We're heading into a tunnel!!

What fun going through a couple of tunnels on the golf carts!  The Moose ladies told us to be sure and "hoot and holler" as we rolled through, and we did!

We quickly spotted a sign sponsored by the WOTM announcing their support for the AoA!  And check out that standing water.  It had really been raining all morning, but only lower parts of the course were this wet.

We lost count of how many sponsor signs we saw (👏👏), and we couldn't take pictures of all of them.  But we want to give a shout out to the Aberdeen Barn, as Patti's husband, Joe, is the manager there!  We appreciate their support!!

This is one of a couple of bridges that we drove over as we traveled the course.  The wooded areas were scenic.

This sign was sponsored by the Hoot family.  They are Moose friends, and like to call their home, "Hooterville."  Thanks for your support, Hoots!

This sign was sponsored by Moose friend Eric and his wife, Stephanie.  Eric couldn't be with us this year, due to having to travel for business.  He's the one whose father passed away recently, and we had made cards for him.  Much love for you, too, Eric and Stephanie!

Why, hello to you too, Mr. Greg Kline, Arc Board Member and Liz's father!  He, his son Stephen, nephew Patrick, and neighbor Mr. Engelmeyer were one of the amazing teams playing in the tourney!  Thanks, guys!!  We appreciate your support!

The next signs we spotted were ones our own AoA family and extended family members sponsored.  Devin's family sponsored a sign in his honor - he was excited to see a picture of himself in "his" boat!  They also sponsored a sign on behalf of their business, Pet Supplies Plus.  They currently have one store in Chesapeake and in late fall will be opening a Williamsburg location at the Lightfoot Marketplace!  Thanks, Bobowicz Family!!

Our Executive Director's family sponsored two signs!

This one means a lot to Lisa, Carol, and Nan!  Thank you so much, McGregor family!

Patrick was excited to see the sign his family sponsored in his honor.  He loves baseball, so Patti made a play on the phrase "Swing Batter, Batter, Swing!" for his sign!  ⚾🏌 Thanks to Patrick's family for the sponsorship!

Kevin's family has been hole sponsors for a few years.  We are very thankful for their continued support, and just love this picture of Kevin!  Thanks, MacMasters family!

A new sponsor this year is APEX Physical Therapy and Movement Center, which is owned by Lexi's cousins Kelly and Scott.  They are friends of The Arc's and the AoA's, and we look forward to visiting their Rock Steady Boxing Gym this fall for a workout session!  Thanks for your support APEX!!

We found Laura's and Lexi's signs side by side on hole 16.  Both of them are veteran sponsors and their signs look great on the greens!  Many thanks to the Palmer and Steele families for sponsoring these lovely signs!

We love this picture of Sam about to be devoured by a shark, and the accompanying phrase on the sign!  Yes, golfers, you have to play where the ball lies...no moving it!  Thank you Collins family for sponsoring a hole once again this year!

This year's WOTM tournament was amazing!   Again, we thank all of the players, sponsors, AoA volunteers, and most of all Patti and the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1755, for your part in making it happen!  We love you all!

Until next year,

Lisa, Carol, Nan, and the AoA Gang
